ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Meaghan knew who she was from a very early age. and she follows that passion with everything she has.

Growing up in Welland, ON, I was lucky to have had the opportunity to explore musical theatre in my classrooms and wider community. I began to understand all aspects of theatre, working both on and off stage in various school and community productions. With support from my family, teachers, and peers, I have continued to pursue my dream of working in theatre in its various forms over the years - from wanting to be in a Broadway show, to wanting to direct one.

Since graduating from Randolph College in 2021, I have worked primarily in theatre education spaces, and founded my own indie theatre company, sunbeamtheatre.co, to provide opportunities for emerging artists to gain professional experience on and off the stage. My various training across different theatrical disciplines has provided a strong knowledge base, and I value understanding the scope of work that each person must do to bring live theatre to audiences.

As an artist, finding compelling stories that reflect the world around me is at the heart of my practice. In Hamlet, Shakespeare describes the purpose of acting as ‘holding the mirror up to nature’ and that sentiment has always rung true in the theatre that has impacted me, shows that have me leaving the theatre still pondering the questions that have been put forward by the work. In my personal practice, I love finding ways to revamp beloved classics for the contemporary audience, with an intention of intersectionality and care. Why is it still important to tell these stories, and connect them to our world today, and how do we tell that story in a way that reaches young people, or disenfranchised people who don’t see themselves traditionally represented in these stories?

Outside of theatre, I am an avid reader, be it romance, fantasy, or nonfiction historical texts. She is still growing, but seeks to take every moment as a learning opportunity, to be embraced with positivity. When not surrounding myself with stacks of sheet music and scripts, I can be found roaming the library or local thrift store.
